A leap of Faith
The first day of my new Adventure
The day had finally arrived. I woke up early, feeling a strange mix of emotions. I was leaving for the United States to begin a new chapter in my life, but the thought of leaving my bed and bedroom, my familiar space, for an extended period felt odd. It was as if the reality of what I was about to do hadn’t fully sunk in yet.
My parents and I drove to Frankfurt Airport in Germany, a few hours away form our home in the Netherlands. The drive was quiet, filled with anticipation and unspoken emotions. Once at the airport, we had one last meal together before it was time to say goodbye. Saying farewell to them was harder that I expected. It was the moemnt when the reality of becoming independent truly hit me.
As I waited at the gate, a strange feeling came over me — an unusual blend of excitement, nervousness, and a tinge of sadness. I had never experienced anything like it before. I knew this was a big moment, a turning point in my life. Eventually, I boarded the plane, bracing myself for the long journey ahead. This was not just my first time traveling alone, but also my first time flying to another continent, and I felt monumental.
After several hours, I landed at Minneapolis Airport. I made it to America! But there was still one more hurdle to clear — U.S. immigration. The line was…
