Ho Chi Minh is a crucial figure in Vietnam’s story of freedom and unity. Born on May 19, 1890, in Central Vietnam, he grew up during a time when Vietnam was ruled by the French. His life and legacy have left a mark on the nation’s history.

Early life and Beginnings

Ho Chi Minh’s father, Nguyen Sinh Sac, was a Confucian scholar and a vocal advocate for Vietnamese independence. His father’s passion for freedom and justice influenced young Ho Chi Minh. As a young man, he traveled to different countries like France, the United States, and the Soviet Union, where he witnessed independence movements and revolutionary ideas. These experiences broadened his perspective and fueled his desire to liberate Vietnam from Colonial rule. He changed his name to Nguyen Ai Quoc, which means “Nguyen the Patriot”, to signify his dedication to his country’s freedom.

Leading Vietnam to Independence

In 1930, Ho Chi Minh co-founded the Communist Party of Vietnam. Believing that unity and collective action were essential to overthrow foreign rule. His leadership was instrumental in mobilizing the Vietnamese people against the French colonial authorities.
