Peru is a country rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. I spent a month in Lima, volunteering in the city’s slums and taking a memorable trip to the iconic Machu Picchu.

The Beautiful Coastline of Lima

Volunteering in Lima

Lima, Peru’s capital, is a city of contrasts. While volunteering in the slums, I witnessed the resilience and warmth of the local communities. Working on various projects, I helped improve living conditions and provided support to families in need. This experience offered a deep insight into the challenges faced by many and the incredible spirit of the Peruvian people.

Exploring Lima

Beyond the slums, Lima has much to offer. The historic center, with its colonial architecture, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The vibrant neighborhoods of Miraflores and Barranco are perfect for exploring local cuisine, art galleries, and beautiful coastal views.

A Journey to Machu Picchu

No trip to Peru is complete without visiting Machu Picchu. This ancient Incan city, set high in the Andes Mountains, is a marvel of engineering and architecture. The journey to Machu Picchu, including the scenic train ride and the hike up to the site, is an adventure in itself. Standing among the ruins, surrounded by stunning mountain vistas, is a truly unforgettable experience.

Final Thoughts

My month in Peru was a blend of meaningful volunteer work and awe-inspiring travel. From the vibrant streets of Lima to the majestic heights of Machu Picchu, Peru offers an incredible array of experiences. Whether you’re drawn to its rich cultural heritage or its natural wonders, Peru is a destination that will leave a lasting impression.
