In March 2024, I spent a month in Thailand, starting in the metropole city of Bangkok and exploring Ayutthaya, Pattaya, and Chiang Mai.

Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand’s enormous capital, is a city that never sleeps. From the Grand Palace and Wat Pho to the Chatuchak Market, there’s always something to see and do. The street food scene is phenomenal, with vendors offering delicious dishes like pad thai and mango sticky rice.

Ayutthaya

A day trip to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital, revealed historical ruins and temples. The iconic Buddha head entwined in tree roots at Wat Mahathat and the towering chedis of Wat Phra Si Sanphet are must-sees.

Pattaya

In Pattaya, I experienced the lively beach scene and nightlife. The Sanctuary of Truth, a massive wooden temple by the sea, showcases intricate carvings and offers a glimpse into Thai craftsmanship.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai in the north provided a serene contrast to the cities. I explored ancient temples, visited an ethical elephant sanctuary, and wandered through the night markets. The city’s blend of traditional and modern culture was truly enchanting.

Final Thoughts

My month in Thailand was a perfect mix of urban excitement and cultural exploration. From the chaotic charm of Bangkok to the historical splendor of Ayutthaya, the lively beaches of Pattaya, and the serene beauty of Chiang Mai, Thailand is a country that offers a diverse and unforgettable travel experience.
