Wat: The heart of Thai Buddhism

The term “Wat” refers to a Buddhist temple complex, and these are found throughout Thailand. Each Wat serves as a spiritual, cultural, and social hub for the community in Thailand. Here are a few of the most iconic Wats that exemplify Thai Buddhist architecture:

  1. Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha)

Located within the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Wat Phra Kaew is considered the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. its central shrine houses the Emerald Buddha, an icon carved from a single block of jade. The temple complex is adorned with murals, golden spires, and detailed sculptures, showcasing the pinnacle of Thai artistry.

2. Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)

Situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Wat Arun is famous for its spire (prang) that is beautifully decorated with colorful porcelain and seashells. This temple is stunning at sunrise and sunset, whet its silhouette is reflected on the river.
