The best neighborhoods to live in — My detailed picks from four Asian cities (October 2023 to March 2024)
During the past half year, I was able to live in four big cities across Asia: Manila in the Philippines, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and Bangkok in Thailand. Each city had its own charm, culture, and livestyle, and I want to share my experiences and recommendations for anyone considering a simular journey. My journey began in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. I spent a total of four months here for work, primarily living in the Makati district, which I highly recommend as a place to stay for both short-term and long-term visitors.
Makati — The Financial hub
Makati is often referred to as the financial heart of the Philippines, and for good reasons. The area around Ayala Avenue is lined with skyscrapers, banks, and multinational corporations. But it’s not all business; Makati offers a blend of work and play. The Greenbelt Mall complex, for example, is a top destination for luxury shopping and dining.
